LifeShelf — Support

Updated: July 24, 2026

LifeShelf is a private home for the documents that protect your life. If something isn't working, or you just want to ask whether LifeShelf can do a thing, write to us — a person reads every message.

We aim to reply within 2 business days.

Before you write

It helps enormously if you include: your device (iPhone, iPad or Mac), the iOS/macOS version, the LifeShelf version (Settings ▸ About), and what you expected to happen. Please never send us your documents, passwords, or an export file — we don't need them, and we don't want a copy of your private records.

Common questions

Do I need an account?

No. LifeShelf has no account and no server. Everything starts on your device. If you turn on sync, the "account" is simply the Apple ID already signed in on that device.

How do I get my documents onto a second device?

Sign that device into the same Apple ID, install LifeShelf, and turn on iCloud Sync. If a shelf already exists in that iCloud account, LifeShelf offers to restore it and shows the documents arriving. Make sure iCloud Keychain is on as well — see the next answer.

My documents are listed, but I can't open the original files on a new device.

This is almost always iCloud Keychain. Your originals are encrypted, and the key that opens them travels between your devices only through Apple's end-to-end-encrypted iCloud Keychain. Turn it on in Settings ▸ [your name] ▸ iCloud ▸ Passwords and Keychain, and the key arrives on its own. LifeShelf deliberately refuses to create a second key, because that would leave the arriving files permanently unreadable.

Is my data sent anywhere?

No. There is no LifeShelf server. Reading, classifying and summarising your documents happens on your device, and the contents are never sent to an external AI service. Sync, when you enable it, goes to your own private iCloud — not to us.

What happens when I delete something?

It goes to Trash for 30 days with a countdown, so you can restore it. You can empty the Trash sooner, and Settings ▸ Delete All LifeShelf Data removes everything from that device.

I set a password on an exported PDF and forgot it.

We're sorry — it cannot be recovered. The password is applied on your device and we never receive or store it. Create a new export with a password you'll remember, and keep the file and its password in separate places.

What does Premium include, and how do I cancel?

LifeShelf is free up to a document limit. Premium removes that limit and unlocks the full app, as an auto-renewable monthly subscription or a one-time Lifetime purchase. Subscriptions are billed by Apple and renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends. To cancel: Settings app ▸ [your name] ▸ Subscriptions. Lifetime is one-time and never renews.

How do I restore a purchase on a new device?

Open LifeShelf ▸ Settings ▸ LifeShelf Premium and tap Restore Purchases, signed into the same Apple ID you bought with.

Refunds

All purchases are processed by Apple, so refunds are handled by Apple, not by us. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. If something went wrong with the app, tell us too — we'd like to fix it.

Is LifeShelf a will, or legal advice?

No. LifeShelf helps you organise records and plan who can reach them, but a Legacy Plan, Recovery Kit or executor export has no legal force on its own and is not a substitute for a will or professional advice. Please talk to a qualified professional about your estate.

Deleting your data

Because we never hold your data, there is nothing for us to delete on our side. To remove it from a device, use Settings ▸ Delete All LifeShelf Data, or delete the app. If sync is on and you want it out of iCloud as well, delete the data while signed in so the deletion propagates.

Reporting a bug or asking for a feature

Send it to with what you did, what you expected, and what happened instead. Screenshots of the screen are welcome; please blur anything private first.
